A 40-year-long adventure
Giuseppe Guzzetta  started to deal in scrap metal in the fifties, when the recovery of scrap was crucial for the recovering post-war Italian industry, anticipating a fundamental need of today. In 1980, the generational change: Paolo Guzzetta, Angela Guzzetta, Maurizio Guzzetta, Fabrizio Guzzetta, made Sicilia Rottami to be established. The first 800 square meters warehouse was built. Five years later, the company experienced a fast growth, having heavily invested into innovation. In a short time, the firm provided itself with the most advanced equipment and in 1990 obtained its first waste management license. Still during 1990, Sicilia Rottami Ltd has begun to cooperate with some supply chain consortiums such as COBAT (National Consortium for the Collection and the Recycling of Exhausted Batteries) leading its Sicilian division and conducting the collection of exhausted lead batteries all over the regional territory. Soon, it became necessary to expand the depot size and the related machinery, so the firm invested in the acquisition of a new lot, obtaining the necessary permits and expanding the company's operations through other waste segments. The new 7 square kilometers area was obtained in 1995 and was equipped with a new Shear Baler for ferrous scrap, so it could meet the requirements of Sicilia Rottami's extra-regional partners, such as steelworks and foundries. Later, the area was also provided with the first electric cable treatment and recovery facility. Over the following years, the firm continued to grow both in volumes of processed waste and in employees. For this reason, in 2005 the company acquired a new 18.000 square meters wide facility in Catania's industrial zone, taking a further step forward. Today, Sicilia Rottami Ltd deals with more than 40.000 tons of scrap metals and special waste (both hazardous and non-hazardous) every year. Our dependability and the experience we have acquired over the years made our company to consolidate and strengthen its position in the market and also break in other fields, such as the ones of industrial demolitions and environmental reclamations. Currently under AIA registration, Sicilia Rottami has already been granted with the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, EU 333-2011, EoW EU 715-2013 certifications. This proves our determination to achieve the excellence in the respect of the environment and our workers' health and security.
